This Mainstar system can be communicated with, via
wide area network from remote locations from around
the world. The Mainstar utility monitoring and control
software communicates via twisted pair with the Mainstar
Router which can be located up to 1000 meters away from
the Mainstar utility monitoring and control software
(in installations where the distance is greater than 1000
metres, additional Mainstar Routers can be used to act
as signal relays). The Mainstar Router communicates with
an unlimited number of 12-way Mainstar Electronic Control
Units via twisted pair cable.
Each 12-way Mainstar Electronic Control Unit typically
controls via direct wire 12 Mainstar 5(32)A kWh Meters
making twelve monitored utilities in total. Each 12-way
Mainstar Electronic Control Unit also has twelve "on/off"
controls and auto disconnects for twelve monitored and
controlled utility points.
Software
The Mainstar utility monitoring and control network
solution software is typically installed on a master personal
computer that is usually located in the site services office
or on the central server.
The Mainstar utility monitoring and control software
interfaces with the Mainstar Router via twisted pair cable.
Remote communication with the Mainstar utility monitoring
and control software is typically done through a wide area network.
Router
The Mainstar Router can be installed up to 1000 meters
away from the master personal computer or server with
the Mainstar utility monitoring and control software installed
on it. For distances more than 1000 meters additional
Mainstar Routers can be used as signal relays.
The Mainstar Router interfaces with the Mainstar software
via twisted pair cable and with the remotely located Mainstar
Electronic Control Units via twisted pair cable.
Masters and Slaves
The Mainstar Electronic Control Units and 5(32)A kWh Meters
are typically configured in what are called "Masters" and
"Slaves". A "Master" is where the Mainstar Electronic Unit
and the Mainstar 5(32)A kWh Meters are located, and
a "Slave" is where the utility points monitored and controlled
by a Mainstar Electronic Unit are located. The Mainstar
Electronic Control Units interface with the Mainstar Router
via twisted pair cable and with the Mainstar Energy Sensors
via direct wire.
